For our final installment of the year, we turn to the exciting world of malt and micro maltsters! Small batch malting facilities like Skagit Valley and Mecca Grade have begun to pop up across the country. We thought this would be a perfect time to discuss some of these producers and the brewers who work with their products.
We’ll be focusing on what brewers and maltsters are looking for out of small batch malt, the differences between large and small scale malting operations, and the importance of malt in the brewhouse. Resident moderator Ryan Spencer and The Upper Lip will host a combination of soon to be announced maltsters and brewers from the Pacific Northwest.
We will be featuring several beers available on draught showcasing malts from both Mecca Grade and Skagit Valley. The draught list will remain available during standard Upper Lip hours following the panel discussion.
About The Series
Moderated by Advanced Cicerone® Ryan Spencer, the discussion series focuses on a particular subject each gathering. The goal of these talks is to share some of the knowledge and opinions industry veterans have gained over the years through an open panel discussion.
Each seminar features a unique list curated to drive home some of the topics discussed by the panel. Attendees of the event will get an opportunity to participate in a thirty minute Q&A session at the end of the discussion.
The price of entry is $10 and also includes one pour from one of the six featured beers available during the symposium. Tickets are available online or can be purchased in-store at either Bailey's Taproom or The Upper Lip. Doors at 12:45pm. Event from 1-3pm.
